How to Keep Makeup Looking Fresh Longer

Don't you just love the way Lana Del Rey looks in this photo? Without a doubt, Lana Del Rey  is  absolutely stunning. This could be due to her skin care regimen, her genes or her flawless appearance can very well be the result of proper makeup application techniques. Not to hate on Lana Del Rey but I am going with the later.

Every woman wants to know how to keep their makeup on all day. What's comforting to know is that you do not have to be a professional Makeup Artist to achieve a flawless look, nor should you have to rely on certain products that are labeled "long-wearing". The comforting news is: You can keep your makeup looking fresh from dusk 'til dawn just by using proper application techniques and applying one essential product: loose powder.

That's right: Loose powder is your complexion's best friend!

Now that we know we need to use loose powder in our makeup routine, let's breakdown the required application steps to achieve a "flawless face" ....

After applying either a foundation or BB cream {read about L'Oreal Paris Magic BB Cream HERE} continue with the following steps:

Step 1: Apply Concealer : Gently dot concealer and blend using your finger or concealer brush around the under-eye area. Seal coverage by lightly sweeping the area with a small powder brush dusted with sheer, loose powder.

Step 2: Cream Blush : I am a firm believer that less is more…especially with cream products. Because of its consistency, it is the nature of cream blush to move on the face. One way to prevent this from happening is to apply a dusting of sheer loose powder over the cheeks after you have applied the blush to keep it where it belongs-on your cheeks.

Step 3: Eyeliner: Eyeliner smudges by nature, but applying a waterproof eyeliner can also help the product last longer than using a regular version of eyeliner. Rather than using black, which can look harsh, I often recommend trying navy blue.

Step 4: Lipstick/Lip Gloss: There are products on the market made specifically to prevent feathering, and a secret trick of mine that I always use if I don't have a  Lip Glossing/No Feather Pencil on me is to dab foundation on your fingertip and smooth it over your lip line. This smooths out any lines around the mouth and provides an even surface for lip color to adhere and stick to.

Now that we covered the basic makeup products you will need, are you left trying to figure out which colors/shades complement you the best?

Here's a surprising tip I learned a few years ago from a Makeup Artist: To identify colors that will work for you, use your hair as a guide, not your eyes! If you're blonde, go with creams and taupes. Brunettes look great in mochas and chocolate browns. If you're auburn or a redhead, choose shades of copper and peach, or cool tones like pinks and lavenders. Gray hair looks gorgeous with tones of grays, soft purples and blues.

However, if you're still unsure about colors, stick to neutrals. You can still achieve drama and variety with neutral tones-they're actually my favorite to work with. Or, to make it really simple, pick up one of the Face Palettes from brands like Almay, Sonia Kashuk and Physicians Formula, which are designed to correspond to your specific eye hue for complementary colors.
